Hello! I am Christa and I am running for my first term on the Board of Selectmen. Though new to this Board, I am not new to Darien local government.
My commitment to serving our community began in 2007 when I was elected to the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) which holds the legislative powers for Darien. This body gave me an amazing insight into the myriad of issues that affect the day-to-day life of every town resident. I listened to my constituents, conferred with my colleagues, and voted on resolutions that shaped the future of Darien. My passion for education and service then brought me to the Darien Board of Education, where I have served for the past 6 years. I have been committed to maintaining the high quality of education that Darien families expect, while vetting each decision in light of its fiscal implication.
I look forward to joining the Board of Selectmen and using my experiences to further strengthen the dialogue between the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Education, as well as all the town boards and bodies.
A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross with a B.A. in English, I grew up in Rye, NY, a small town community over the border that is very similar to Darien. I worked on the municipal trading desk at Kidder Peabody, and then as a Regional Business Manager in sales for Bloomberg LP, while also receiving my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Manhattanville College. My husband John and I moved to Darien in 2002, when I chose to stay at home to raise our three children, now a 16-year old girl and twin 12 year old boys.
Since moving to town, I’ve been very active with local non-profits, Darien youth sports organizations and school PTOS, and value the role they play in the fabric of our quality of life.
Fun fact: My name came from the fact that I was born on Christmas Day, and now I live on St. Nicholas Road!
